FERRYMAN

MUSIC

The majority of the music, including several of the original songs, were created for the film by songwriter / producer Rob Clydesdale. As well as performing solo work more recently, Rob played guitar on multiple tracks on David Bowie’s Buddha In Suburbia soundtrack album, has produced the recordings of many artists over several decades, and has contributed multiple instruments to many more.

Darren Bender met Rob through a nearby studio, where Darren and singer / songwriter Michael Aldridge rehearsed their music project called The Electric House. Rob became their producer and coach. When Darren couldn’t afford to get one of the songs he wanted for Ferryman, Michael wrote a replacement. The result, Close My Eyes, is a beautiful a Capella song that plays over the motorbike journey to Eve’s family home. It captures the characters’ emotions at that moment perfectly and is an amazing song writing debut. Michael has written many more (equally great) songs since.

Executive producer Chris Mander and editor Neil Fergusson also contributed moments to the soundtrack, based on Rob’s original theme.

During the writing of the script, Darren had been inspired by the music of Peter Broderick, an American multi-instrumentalist whose much loved body of work has seen him compose for film, theatre, animation, and collaborate in the US, Europe and most recently Ireland where he currently runs his own studio. Darren got in touch with Peter, explaining how the songs had impacted the writing of the film. Peter responded generously, personally ensuring that a deal was made to use several of those amazing songs in the film.
